Barnsley Council is supporting small businesses across the town with a six-week support programme providing a free mentoring service and a series of online workshops, aimed at helping them trade through lockdown and plan for 2021.

Supported by Enterprising Barnsley and delivered by business transformation agency, Insight with Passion, the Barnsley Business Boost programme launches on Monday, 25 January, with the first workshop ‘Survive & Thrive’.

Aimed at customer-facing businesses in retail, the workshops will focus on helping businesses adapt to online trading, deliver excellent customer service, and understand how to brand their business effectively, whilst also promoting resilience and encouraging collaboration.

The telephone mentoring sessions will be available every Wednesday throughout the programme from 4pm to 8pm, for those business owners needing specific advice and support.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for Place, said: “We know small businesses in Barnsley are facing significant challenges. Through the workshops, we hope to equip people with the knowledge to adapt their business models, to be able to help people to sell safely and successfully.

“In addition, the mentoring calls will offer support which is specific to the needs of their business and I would urge any business owner in need of some help, advice or just some positivity, to take advantage of this.

“This is part of a wider package of support that we are providing to businesses across the borough to give them a fighting chance to get through these difficult times.”

Consultant for Insight with Passion, Laura Kirk, said: “Having supported small businesses across the UK for over a decade, whilst working with some of the world’s leading brands, we will share expertise along with real solutions that work for small businesses in Barnsley, whilst hopefully providing a welcome boost to the morale of business owners.”
