The government will introduce a 12-month business rates holiday for all businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors. Businesses that meet the criteria will automatically receive a new 2020/2021 bill with a full reduction from 18 March 2020.
You won’t be eligible for the discount if the premise are being used for:
- the provision of financial services such as banks, building societies, cash points, bureaux de change, short-term loan providers
- medical services, such as dentist, doctors, vets, osteopaths, chiropractors
- professional services such as solicitors, accountants, insurance agents, financial advisors
- post office sorting offices
Businesses in all the above sectors that qualify for this discount will receive an amended bill. If you do not receive a new bill but think you meet the criteria, please fill in our ‘Online contact form.’
Please note, this is our existing standard refunds form but please be assured this is for the form you need to apply for this grant.
Please select ‘Business Rates’ in the refund option and put ‘10000’ in the refund amount.
If you don’t know your business rates account number, you should insert ‘TBC’ in the relevant field and ‘1’ as the last payment.
There’s a free text box on the last page where you can add notes if you need to.
Don’t forget to provide an email address and contact telephone number.
Barnsley Council’s finance team will review all forms received and arrange for grant payments to be made directly into the verified business accounts provided. This should take just a few days, once you receive your confirmation email.
