About The Event

The Click Together programme invites women from across South Yorkshire to attend a FREE DIY PR Workshop on Tuesday April 19th at Barnsley Digital Media Centre (DMC) delivered by Kate Betts of Capital B Media.

Seasoned journalist and PR consultant Kate Betts, of Capital B Media, will show you how you can do your own public relations and gain media coverage for little or no cost. She will explain how you can use the media’s need for stories, for people to comment on stories and their need for pictures to your advantage. She will debunk a lot of PR myths and show how you really can do it yourself with a bit of time and effort.

The seminar is aimed at women who run – or want to run – their own businesses who need raise their profile and enhance their reputation using local and regional radio, TV and newspapers. The tips on offer can also be used elsewhere, such as in the national media, B2B media and the business press and will also focus on selling and promoting your work online.

It will cover how the local media works and how you can use it to your advantage, how to write a press release that will get used and what the media is looking for with pictures. There will be an ‘ecommerce’ flavour as Kate also explores how businesses promoting and selling themselves online can share their stories.

Kate is a media “insider” with more than 20 years’ experience as a journalist in radio, TV and newspapers. She has worked as a freelance for BBC Radio 4 and taught print and broadcast journalism at the University of Sheffield. She now helps organisations deal with the media, through offering interview technique training and PR consultancy.
