About The Event

Join an export taster mission to Estonia organised by the DMC and Enterprising Barnsley on behalf of the Department of International Trade.

This Northern Powerhouse initiative invites businesses with little or no export experience from the North of England to join an organised visit to Estonia.

Estonia is the North Eastern border of the European Union, next to Russia. It is south of Finland, and one of the three Baltic States. It is one of the most digitally advanced countries in the world, home
of Skype, Transferwise, and e-Residency. Tallinn also has one of the most unspoiled Old Towns in

The Trade Mission will include meetings with:
• The British Embassy UKTI team
• The Estonian Chamber of Commerce
• The British Estonian Chamber
• Work in Estonia
• A networking event with a wide range of Estonian businesses
• A workshop on the Estonian business environment and opportunities
• A speed dating event with Estonian businesses
• Networking event with Estonia’s startup community and leading UK tech investor Founders Factory

The aim of the trip is to get a deep insight into the opportunities, and leave with direct personal
contacts of the key people who can offer further support in doing business with Estonia. The trip will
be coordinated by Tobias Stone, a former Estonian resident, Special Advisor to the Estonian
Government, and former advisor to Tech North.

The visit will also include a medieval banquet in a 15th Century building, dinner in the newly
gentrified warehouse area of contemporary Estonian cuisine, and lunch at one of the most famous restaurants, open since the 1960s in a former Soviet Writer’s guild.

Although the visit is not specifically sector focused, it will provide useful connections for suppliers into the digital industries including marketing, finance, manufacturing and design. The country is recognised the world over for its innovative and digital approach to governance and service delivery as well as a reputation for producing innovative digital start ups.

The visit will commence on Tuesday 21st March 2017, flying with SAS from Manchester and arriving late afternoon into Tallinn with a full day of business to business activities and workshops on Wednesday 22nd March, before a final morning on Thursday 23rd March meeting with the British Embassy and departing from Tallinn Airport mid afternoon, arriving back into Manchester late afternoon (Estonia is +2 hours GMT).

Businesses will enjoy a range of workshops, networking and tailored meetings (where possible) and return with an understanding of the opportunities for export emerging in Estonia and the Baltics, how to do business overseas and new contacts.
