NHS Test and Trace – Businesses must take action

As of Thursday 24 September, the NHS Coronavirus (COVID-19) app will launch in across the UK , where venues will ask visitors to check-in when visiting using the NHS Track and trace app to support the government Coronavirus (COVID-19) track and trace scheme.

To support the launch of this new app which will make testing and tracing easier, businesses will be legally required to display NHS QR posters in their venues. These changes will allow customers who have downloaded the new NHS COVID-19 app to use their smartphones to check-in.

To download the NHS QR code posters, businesses should visit the government’s website, which also provides a range of assets to manage test and tracing successfully within venues. By using the posters, NHS Test and Trace will be able to contact customers with public health advice should there be a Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Using QR codes will help businesses meet the new legal requirement to record the contact details of customers, visitors and staff on their premises rather than relying on form filling alone.

When displaying the NHS QR code posters, businesses are encouraged to consider the locations that posters are displayed, making sure they are visible at every entrance to their venue and are printed at size A4 minimum. Further advice around displaying NHS QR posters is available at the government website.

Customers in venues are urged to support local businesses by complying with regulations, by either downloading the app to their smartphones or by filling in a form on arrival at a venue. Further information on how to download the new app is available at the NHS website.

Julia Burrows, Director of Public Health, said: “It is vital that residents and businesses in Barnsley work together with the launch of the new NHS Coronavirus (COVID-19) app to make sure it is strong and successful at protecting our communities through track and tracing.

“I would strongly encourage everybody that can, to use this new app, which provides a safe and secure way to accurately track any person who has been in contact with somebody that has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“It’s important that now more than ever, we are following regulations set out by the government which will help us protect lives in Barnsley.” More information around displaying NHS QR code posters and following regulations for businesses is available on the Enterprising Barnsley page.
