Support for Taxi drivers
To support Taxi drivers within the region, who have suffered loss of income due to wider restrictions having an impact on their trade, a flat payment of £500 is being awarded to each licenced taxi driver. This payment will be made from the £30M figure provided to Sheffield City Region to support the regions businesses.
To apply, you must be licenced in Barnsley and working in South Yorkshire.
Cllr Sir Stephen Houghton, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: “This is a difficult time for businesses and individuals who, due to no fault of their own are losing trade in their business and are suffering financially as a result. Support has already been launched for businesses across the borough affected by the recent Covid 19 restrictions but one area yet to receive any direct support is our licensed taxi drivers who play a vital part in the economy but have been clearly affected.
Barnsley has approximately 600 licensed taxi drivers, and as part of our discussions at regional level, we have tried to provide the best package of support to people with the discretionary funds.”
