To support Taxi drivers within the region, who suffered loss of income due to wider Covid-19 restrictions having an impact on their trade, a payment of £500 was awarded to each licenced taxi driver in November 2020 and again in January 2021.
It has been agreed from today – 25 March 2021, that all taxi drivers will receive a third payment of £500. Anyone who received the initial grant in November will be paid automatically.
If you are a newly licenced taxi driver, or for enquiries about accessing this grant please apply online here.
You must be licenced in Barnsley and working in South Yorkshire.
Cllr Sir Stephen Houghton, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: “We have been doing all we can to support businesses and individuals affected by Covid-19, and know this continues to be a difficult time due to loss of trade.
“Considering how tough this period had been for taxi drivers in accessing direct funding, we have provided two payments of £500 to taxi drivers previously. We have now agreed a further payment will be made from the council’s discretionary fund. It is important we support our taxi drivers who play a vital role in our local economy.”
